I was given the latest (as of yesterday afternoon) OS upgrade for the Bold while I was in KL and when I got the first opportunity, I flashed my Bold (and held my breath). I have flashed my Curve many, many times with OS 4.5 but this was the first time I flashed the Bold. I was apprehensive; if for some reason, it didn't go according to plan, then I would have the coolest doorstop in Sarawak.
I'm glad to say that my fears were unfounded and all went smoothly. In fact it felt a little faster then flashing my Curve; go figure.
So now my Bold is sporting OS 4.6.0.112 which I believe is RC3 (or is the term GC3?). Previously I had a problem with a perceived memory leak on the previous OS version which seems to have been solved in this release. Plus, upon upgrading, I did the usual and removed the languages I don't require (pretty much everything except English was removed). So now I have about 23MB of free immediately after a reboot. The previous version and with all language options still intact gave me about 15MB free upon reboot.
I was hoping for a today screen to appear (I did remove the vendor.* file before I flashed the device) but alas, it was to no avail. They did give about four new wallpapers though; of really hot.. BMW's! Mostly the new BMW 3-series coupes; you know, cars I can't afford in real life! And of course, you can't download new themes from mobile.blackberry.com or even BPlay.com as there isn't any! Bummer
I have been told that the new OS version improves battery life, I will give it a bash and report soon.
