Living in New York City, I often run into people with strange hobbies. Many of these involve the psychic realm. They might not be Madam Cleo, but many of these people take their psychic readings seriously. This involves everything from palm reading to tarot cards to astrology and horoscopes. There’s one thing that links at least a few of them: BlackBerry.
You can’t walk 10 steps in this city without seeing someone working on their ‘Berry. This doesn’t exclude the psychics among us. They use their BlackBerry just like you and me. So why not use it to further their hobbies? Just for these guys and gals, we’ll take a look at some of the stranger apps for BlackBerry.
Horoscopes
The most common of the psychic elements is the horoscope. You can read one basically anywhere: your local newspaper, thousands of Internet websites, even with our co-branded Viigo. Some people just want more. This is where BlackBerry applications come in.
It appears that Crazysoft, creators of Astrology and Horoscope Pro, have the market cornered. Seriously, go do a Google search for “horoscope blackberry.” In fact, I’ll make it easier on you : click here. That’s basically all there is. And for good reason. This program really covers all the bases.
Most basic is the 2008 horoscope guide. This will give you insights into all sorts of life developments, from professional to romantic. It’s the same kind of thing you can find in your daily paper, sure. That’s why Crazysoft added so many other features.
How about a matchmaker? While they admit that your lover, or potential lover, might not be right along the lines of your sign, there are other factors at play. The Crazysoft matchmaker can give you insights into why your current relationship is working, or is not working. They claim it will help you better understand relationships in general, as well as yourself.
Crazysoft also offers bits on Zodiac signs and what they mean, offering you insight into who you are through the sign under which you were born. There’s also a section for numerology, which is based on your date of birth. So there’s something for everyone with this astrological package.
You can download Crazysoft’s Astrology and Horoscope Pro from the BBGeeks Store for $16.95.
Palm reading
I can remember from back in the day, as I’m sure you can, on the playground at school, when classmates would offer to read your palm. It was a fun venture, sure, especially when they didn’t end up spitting in your palm at the end (and there’s your swimming pool!). Yes, there are plenty of people who take this seriously. So let’s see what the BlackBerry has for them.
First is by way of e-book. It is called the Art of Palm Reading, and can be found at Softpedia. The authors discuss themes like major lines, minor lines, mounts, and signs. It’s illustrated, as any palm reading book should be. If you’d like to take this route, I’d suggest reading our guide to reading e-books on your BlackBerry. That should give you a head start. The book costs $9.99, but you can get the first chapter for free on a trial.
For a more interactive experience, we turn back to Crazysoft. They’ve developed an application called Hand Reading Pro. It accomplishes much of what the e-book does, but without the constant scrolling. This gives you the skinny on palm lines — heart line, head line, life line, Saturn line, Apollo line, Mercury line — and fingers. There’s also a section on extras, including hand shapes. This kind of wigs me out. There’s something to be made of the shape of our hands?
Like most Crazysoft apps, you can nab this at the BBGeeks Store for $16.95 the same as Astrology and Horoscopes Pro.
Tarot readings
In high school, I had a friend who was very into tarot readings and the Quaballah. He claimed he was Wiccan at the time, but then changed course, when Wicca became a sort of trend. Anyway, he’d take my tarot reading for practice during our study period. It always fascinated me in a way, but it’s certainly not something I could get into. The folks at Crazysoft, of course, are totally into tarot readings.
Best Tarot Card Pro works just like any tarot reading. The advantage is that it gives you a bevy of explanations, which are usually only available to the more advanced readers. You can choose a simple or advanced explanation for your reading, which is great for beginners trying to learn the ropes. You can then create a profile, which will keep track of your readings.
From there, you’ll have your cards dealt, one at a time. First the program will tell you what the next card will mean. Then it is flipped, and you’ll get a short explanation. Once you’ve seen all 10 cards, Best Tarot Pro will give you an overall assessment.
If this isn’t your bag, or you’d like to learn even more about tarot readings, you can always go the e-book route. Though in that case, you’ll need a deck of cards. Check out Goddess Flight for a free tarot e-book.
For Best Tarot Pro, you can check out the store. It’s $12.95.
