  BlackBerry Media Sync ya disponible para su descarga

  Parece que las previsiones de esta mañana no han fallado y ya está disponible para su descarga desde los rápidos y veloces servidores de RIM el BlackBerry Media Sync. Una muestra de la velocidad de descarga en la imagen adjunta, 20 minutos para bajarse 30,8 Mb, multas por exceso de velocidad no vamos a tener, ataques por ansiedad o impaciencia alguno que otro caerá. A ver si alguien lo sube a algún servidor tipo rapidshare, megaupload o similar y conseguimos tener una velocidad decente.

  

  A media descarga la velocidad a tomado la prudente velocidad de 23,6Kb/s, tiempo restante estimado 12 minutos y subiendo.

  Acutalización 23:32: Finalizada la descarga, el resumen 22min 40 seg, velocidad de crucero 23,1 Kb/seg.

  BlackBerry Kickstart hands-on: pics and specs

  Love it or hate it, the flip BlackBerry Kickstart is on the way, and there’s lots to say about it. The Wi-Fi model is currently dubbed the BlackBerry 8220, with the BlackBerry 8210 covering the GPS variant. In terms of construction, the Kickstart is showing off the same recessed trackball and large keys that had been eyeballed back in April. Previous worries about bulky size have been promptly thrown out the window - it’s apparently small enough to fit in your pocket like any other flip, despite the slight additional thickness.

  One surprise is the replacement of microUSB taking over the old miniUSB current BlackBerrys have. Rumours of the BlackBerry Javelin getting the same treatment would show an ongoing trend for future BlackBerrys, but does make me wonder why the BlackBerry Bold didn’t start all of that off… As for how this new contender will fit into the larger scheme of things, some comparison shots against other flip phones (rather than other BlackBerrys) do a good job of contextualizing the BlackBerry Kickstart’s market position. Can’t wait for it? Rumour still has it that T-Mobile will be packing the Kickstart in September for $49.95. In any case, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what OS 4.6 has to offer.

  RIM BlackBerry 8220 KickStart hands-on review

  RIM first clamshell BlackBerry offering, the BlackBerry KickStart, has taken a back seat to the media-darling BlackBerry 9000 Bold of late, but that could all change in the near future. Alas, we’ll have to wait for RIM to actually announce the BlackBerry 8220 KickStart flip-phone before it gains some more marketing-steam. RIM has apparently decided to drop the KickStart’s “9100” model number in favor of the 8220 and 8210.

  But, as you wait for BlackBerry KickStart to get real, the rabid BlackBerry fans at Crackberry.com have managed to put hands on the BlackBerry 8220 KickStart. True to RIM’s handset naming convention, the BlackBerry 8220 KickStart sports a WiFi radio to complement its generous yet compact SureType keyboard,  impressive QVGA display, and 3.5mm headphone jack.

  Unfortunately, BlackBerry KickStart hopefuls looking for GPS functionality will have to forgo the WiFi radio in the BlackBerry 8210 KickStart.

  BlackBerry KickStart 8220 gets really early review

  The Bold is still stealing the overwhelming majority of RIM's spotlight at the moment for a handful of pretty good reasons: one, it's actually been announced; two, it's 3G; and three, it falls in line with the traditional (and loved) BlackBerry form factor. Lurking in the shadows, though, is the KickStart, RIM's very first flip phone, and a device that could end up making a huge splash if it actually manages to launch at the sub-$50 price point that's been making the rounds on the rumor circuit. CrackBerry got a way-early peek at the 8220 version of the device, which follows RIM's typical naming convention by packing WiFi while an 8210 will hold up the GPS side of things (seriously, RIM, how hard can it be to do both?), and overall it seems that the R&D team did its homework from the quick impressions. The SureType keyboard is huge and apparently quite easy to use without making the phone excessively large, though the trackball rests deeper in the shell making it a bit trickier to operate -- you win some, you lose some. The QVGA display is said to be just shy of Bold quality (which is a compliment, considering the killer screen on the Bold), and it's always hard to argue with a 3.5mm headphone jack.   Blackberry KickStart in the concrete jungle

  Yeah, we’re not sure if Canada can be categorized as a part of the “concrete jungle” either, but semantics aside we’re looking at the first full review of the upcoming BlackBerry Kick Start 8220. The first ever flip ‘Berry has been an item of significant interest ever since we leaked the pictures back in April. Not much has changed, with the device still sporting the same clunky styling, large LCD, and Pearl-esque control layout. As far as we know, we’re still on for an early Fall release, so you won’t have to wait too long to get your grubby hands on one. For the time being, however, these shots and review will have to suffice as the next best thing.

  Crackberry nous fait profiter d’une très belle review du Blackberry 8220 KickStart (ex 9100!)

  Nous avons donc dans la série actuelle:
  Le 8110 (Pearl avec GPS)
  Le 8120 (Pearl avec WIFI)
  Le 8210 (KickStart avec GPS)
  Le 8220 (KickStart avec WIFI)
  Le 8310 (Curve avec GPS)
  Le 8320 (Curve avec WIFI)

  Donc ce n’est pas un KickStart qui arrivera, mais bien deux KickStart! La date de sortie devrait être pour fin Septembre avec T-mobile (aux USA) pour un tarif de 49.99$ (avec contrat 2 ans). Cependant la machine de test de Crackberry porte encore le numéro “9100″ l’Os est 4.6.0.59 et l’appareil est “branded” T-Mobile.

  Cependant comme vous le verrez ci-dessous, l’appareil même si petit en étant fermé est vraiment beaucoup trop grand ouvert (un clavier énorme). Par contre, le coté positif c’est qu’il offre à monsieur madame tout le monde un vrai terminal E-mail avec un clavier utilisable (SureType avec des grande touches).

  Une bonne nouvelle également (pour les fabricants d’accessoires) c’est le changement de la connectique de l’appareil (aurevoir mini USB)

  Les caractéristiques du KickStart:

  • Téléphone à clapet
  • Quadriband - GSM/GPRS/EDGE (pas de 3G malheureusement)
  • 240 x 320 pour l’écran interne (résolution identique au Curve / 8800 en mode portrait)
  • 160 x 128 pour l’écran externe
  • Appareil photo 2 Mpx
  • Prise Jack de 3.5mm
  • Port MicroSD (accessible de l’extérieur)
  • Version de l’Os 4.6
  • Nouvelle génération de clavier SureType

  Have you ever tried to search Google for the answer to your BlackBerry problems, only to find nothing? We have, plenty of times. That’s one of the main reasons why we created BBGeeks. While you can now find something like how to change your BlackBerry auto signature with a Google search, we’re still building up our library of guides and tips. In the meantime, you can check out BlackBerry Answers, at least if you’re north of the border. Let’s take a look at the new service.

  The process is simple and intuitive. You start by either clicking on the BlackBerry HELP! icon on your home screen, or by visiting mobile.blackberry.com from your device. That will bring you to a dialog box, where you can ask whatever question your heart desires.

  To provide you with a relevant answer, the Answers will sift through RIM’s manuals and guides, plus other knowledge base material. Here’s an example:

  It’s really that simple, too. Like most web-based help forms, it asks you to provide feedback as to whether your search string provided a suitable answer.

  The Web's First Review of the BlackBerry KickStart 8220.

  Grab a cup of coffee, sit back and relax! It's time for another hands-on review of a yet to be officially announced or released BlackBerry smartphone. We were the first to get our paws on the BlackBerry 9000, and we're doing it again with Research in Motion's BlackBerry flip phone, aka the KickStart.

  While the last few weeks in CrackBerry nation have been primarily focused on the release of the BlackBerry Bold and the development of RIM's upcoming touchscreen device, rewind less than three months back to April 30th and it was leaked images of the KickStart that shocked the smartphone world and pushed RIMM stock up nearly 5% on the news and for good reason - it showed the world and investment community that RIM wasn't afraid of reinventing and targeting opportunities outside their norm. No, the KickStart doesn't feature the same high-end hardware and all-in-one functionality of the Bold nor have the same allure that a touchscreen BlackBerry proposes, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't get excited about this device. It may not be something that existing BlackBerry or other smartphone users will flock to, but if it hits store shelves at a reasonable price it should be a top pick for flip phone lovers and feature phone upgraders, which should mean CrackBerry nation is about to get a whole lot bigger, and that is exciting.

  As with our BlackBerry Bold review, keep in mind the device we're working with here is pre-release. While the hardware of our KickStart seems to be pretty close to (or perhaps actual) production caliber, and the OS is "close", it's possible (and in the case of the OS version guaranteed) things will change-up a bit by the time you can walk into your local carrier store and buy this device.

  We're going to break this review down into a few parts. Today we'll focus mainly on the hardware and initial impressions after having used the KickStart for a few hours and in the days ahead we'll dig deeper into the KickStart's operating system and device features.

  Bell and Telus making the GSM plunge?

  A recent paper from UBS Investment Research is claiming that Canadian carriers Telus and Bell may be switching from CDMA to the popular GSM archietecture. It’s a big move that could cost upwards of $480 million, but when you look at the amount of exclusivity Rogers is enjoying with the iPhone, you can bet the competition won’t want to miss the next boat. This is good news for Canadian BlackBerry users, as it could mean no more waiting months on end for the CDMA versions of devices to come out. Where Bell and Telus sit on 4G remains uncertain - it’s entirely possible that they’ll skip the existing 3G HSDPA and go right to LTE.

Je vous indiquais le 5 Juillet passé (ici) que T-Mobile Allemagne proposerai le Blackberry 9000 Bold pour le mois de Juillet (21 pour être exact) et après un passage sur le site aujourd’hui… le mois de Juillet est parti pour laisser place à celui du mois d’aout!

  BlackBerry Media Sync launching today?

  Supposedly the BlackBerry/iTunes syncing utility that was making the rounds last month is ready for primetime, and could be popping up for public download from www.blackberry.com/mediasync at some point today. iTunes support certainly makes BlackBerrys more viable as your number one media player - combined with increasing size of memory cards and high quality stereo Bluetooth headsets, it’s hard to go wrong. If you didn’t have time to nab MediaSync when it was available briefly, today could be your big chance, so keep your eyes peeled.

  Rogers BlackBerry Bold announcement still on for this Friday

  As we draw nearer to the rumoured release date of the BlackBerry 9000 in Canada, it turns out we might just be seeing an announcement this Friday. The device proper might not be showing up until as early as the following weekend (August 1st.), or as late as September. It’s all pretty much up in the air at this point, but we would expect nothing less from Rogers. AT&T was supposedly getting the Bold a bit later in August, so it would make sense if Rogers followed suit. I guess we’ll just have to wait until Friday to see what’s up.

  BlackBerry JDE 4.6 beta released

  While the last of the OS 4.5 suite is still in the process of getting outed, a beta version of the BlackBerry Java Desktop Environment for 4.6 is available. New features include being able to integrate with the Messages app, SVG support, additional BlackBerry maps APIs and more. The BlackBerry Bold is coming very soon, and those developers who aren’t RIM partners have probably been in the dark for some time now. It really wasn’t long ago at all that the 4.5 BlackBerry JDE was released, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see some developers going right from 4.3 to 4.6. Hopefully with the latest JDE available, we won’t have to worry about too many of our apps borking out after an OS upgrade…

  BlackBerry Media Sync To Be “Officially” Launched Today?

  Word on the street is that BlackBerry Media Sync, the free utility from RIM that allows you to sync non-DRM protected media from iTunes to your BlackBerry, will be officially released today.

  You may remember about a month ago BlackBerry Media Sync kind of slipped out online and you were able to download it for a couple of days from Akamai’s Edgesuite servers. I downloaded it and used it a few times and it seemed to do exactly what it said it did.

  It is believed that BlackBerry Media Sync will be found on www.blackberry.com/mediasync when it does become available. If you really want to sync your iTunes to your BlackBerry you may want to check that link later today.

  EmailFuture - Send Yourself Scheduled Emails

  Raffy and Josep let me know about this cool service called EmailFuture. It essentially lets you send emails and schedule when they should arrive in your inbox. Its kind of like a very very simple reminder system. Or you could use it as a time capsule to send yourself an email in 10 years from now. (Assuming you still have the same email address or email hasn’t been obliterated by spammers)

  

  The website just started but they are already proposing a good couple of uses for the service. Nothing groundbreaking but the old saying of “if you build it they will come” might prove true on this one…

  Useful Uses

  • E-mail yourself reminders on important dates such as anniversaries, birthdays, valentines day, etc…
  • E-mail yourself reminders on important dates such as when sporting or concert tickets go on sale.
  • Remind yourself of an important due date in the future.
  • Send yourself an Email at the end of the day to remind yourself to buy milk, eggs or any other errands that you may need to run.
  • Maybe you saw something cool on the internet and want to send yourself the link in a couple of days.
  • You can send a message to yourself several years in the future such as a list of goals that you would like to accomplish or where you would like to be in life.

  Not So Useful Uses

  • Email your boss an automated out sick message (while you’re at the beach!)
  • Emailing yourself in the past. I haven’t quite figured out how to build the flux capacitor yet to time travel. Maybe soon though!!!
  • Sending emails to addresses that don’t exist….. or is it?
  • Sending yourself reminders for the wrong dates. If yo can’t correctly remember your anniversary, then you’re pretty much hosed.
  • Sending an email to an address that you don’t plan on having when the e-mail is supposed to be sent. For instance. Don’t send an e-mail to your college e-mail account in 8 years unless you plan on having access to that account in 8 years. Chances are, you would have alredy graduated…. I hope

  Sadly TimeandDate.com does not have a mobile website. On the other hand it does not look terrible on a BlackBerry and I find it to be an extremely useful bookmark. It won’t compare to having a full world clock application on your BlackBerry but it is free. You just need to remember that the time on the right or on the next line from the city.

  I just wanted to put it out there since I was hoping somebody has a better mobile website for checking the current time zone in different major cities. If you do please let me know.

  PLEASE NOTE: The BlackBerry application did not work for me since I got an error that said: Error starting ZipClip: Symbol ‘playerlistener.i’ not found. I will be keeping an eye on the application as it progresses. Since it is still in beta I am willing to forgive it not working yet. I have written a support request but I am hoping if more of us show interest they will make this a high priority fix.

  With that said…

  I was just reading about this cool new service on Mashable. Turns out they have a free BlackBerry compatible application. It essentially just lets you right click on any picture and text on a website and send it to your phone or your friends phone. They also claim spotty support for audio and video being sent to your BlackBerry.

  Once you register at www.zipclip.com it will send you a wap push message to install the software on your BlackBerry. Or you can just go to www.zipclip.com/wap/ and login to install. You also need to install the Firefox or Internet Explorer plugin to be able to send stuff.

  AT&T Navigator Now Works Globally - In 20 Countries

  I was just reading on TBGR about how TeleNav/AT&T Navigator now works in 20 different countries. (China, Caribbean, and others) I guess that explains the significant version bump that Oliver emailed in as a tip earlier this week.

  You obviously now have to pay more per month ($19.99) to get the extra countries on top of paying data roaming fees. I might not object to the higher price but if the maps were on the device.

  I have to say that TeleNav is the best portable GPS solution I have seen to date on a cellphone. I am just starting to get tired of losing my GPS navigation when I am out of cellphone range. I got lost in Vermont once just because of that.
