I came across this article and thought it was important…Why?, well I have found an enormous amount of Blackberry Users that have no idea about Blackberry Messenger and how it works or how you can save a tone of time and money using it in your organization, and personal life. Allot of the users I talk to including wireless sales people don’t realize why they should use it…PUZZLING ISN’T IT.
Im sure over time RIM will start to incorporate it into other Social Apps their are working on like the Facebook app and integration into other IM programs…but for now it is still the cheapest and easiest way for blackberry users to communicate to other blackberry users…..Take a look….
Introduction to How BlackBerry Messenger Works
Imagine taking part in a Web conference designed to pitch your product to foreign investors. You’re in New York, and your potential investors are in London. Your partner and main presenter is in San Francisco. While you’re listening in, you realize a key point that he should make.
You pull out your BlackBerry, go to BlackBerry Messenger and send your partner an instant message: “Todd, you can tie that really well to return on investment.” The immediate response is: “Got it. Will do.” Message sent and received without the investors being aware, point made, and the conference moves on to your company’s advantage.
Or imagine running into heavy traffic on the way to an out-of-town family gathering. You know you’ll be late, but you don’t know who to call. You use BlackBerry Messenger to contact several relatives at once with an apology and estimated arrival time. “That’s OK,” your sister messages back. “We’re stuck in the same mess. Just keep us posted.” Your dad responds with: “We’ll just wait for you here at the restaurant.”
Pin and Ping Lingo
They’re similar sounding but nothing alike. You need the PIN code that identifies your BlackBerry device to use BlackBerry Messenger. Then you can send PIN-to-PIN instant messages to other users. The ping refers to making someone’s BlackBerry vibrate when a message arrives. So you might say, “Give me your PIN, and I’ll ping you at 3 p.m.”
BlackBerry Messenger gives BlackBerry users a quick, easy way to send instant messages to each other using their PIN codes. It’s free and, unlike with e-mail, users can carry on several conversations at the same time. They also can chat with a group, see contacts’ availability, send files and track message status.
What are the features of BlackBerry Messenger? How does instant messaging with your BlackBerry work? And, what are the advantages and disadvantages of BlackBerry Messenger? Go to the next page to find out.
Advantages and Disadvantages of BlackBerry Messenger
BlackBerry Messenger can be a definite asset, if you want to exchange messages with other Blackberry users. With it, you can:
* Carry on a real-time conversation with friends and colleagues in several different locations — or carry on several conversations simultaneously.
* Chat with a group.
* Send and receive an unlimited number of messages worldwide for free with no per-message charge.
* Get messages without filling up your inbox.
* Know whether a buddy is online, available or busy.
* Let your contacts know your own availability for instant messaging.
* Manage log-in and contacts as you would if you were using an IM program from your PC.
* Continue using other programs and send and receive e-mails while BlackBerry Messenger is running.
* Invite someone to join your buddy list and start communicating without setting up a separate IM account.
* Be notified by a specific ringtone or vibration setting each time a message arrives from a particular person.
[sources: BlackBerry Connection, BlackBerry Messenger User Guide and CrackBerry]
One disadvantage of BlackBerry Messenger is that you can’t send an instant message to someone unless you know his or her PIN code, the eight-digit letter-and-number code assigned to that particular Blackberry device.
However, the biggest disadvantage of BlackBerry Messenger may be that it only allows you to exchange instant messages with other BlackBerry users. Introduced in early 2006 as a feature of BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1, BlackBerry Messenger isn’t compatible with popular IMing programs. That’s because it works differently.
With most instant messaging services, you download software that becomes the client on your computer or smartphone. That client connects to the provider’s server, using a proprietary protocol for communication. Once you’ve logged on, the client sends the server your connection information (IP address), your computer port number and the names of everyone on your contact list.
The server creates a temporary file with connection information for you and your contacts. Then the server determines which contacts are logged on and sends that information to your client, as well as letting the contacts know you’re available. After that, the server is no longer involved, and all communication is between your client and that of your message recipient.
With BlackBerry Messenger, however, the server stays involved as it would if you were sending e-mails. All communications go through parent-company Research in Motion’s servers as you continue to exchange messages. That also means you can’t use BlackBerry Messenger unless you have a BlackBerry Internet plan, or data plan [source: CrackBerry].
Next, let’s explore what else you’ll need to get started with BlackBerry Messenger and its basic functions.
Getting Started with BlackBerry Messenger
BlackBerry Messenger doesn’t require much set-up, particularly as it comes preloaded on newer models. With an older BlackBerry model, you’ll have to do a BlackBerry Messenger download. No matter what, here’s what you’ll need to use BlackBerry Messenger:
* A Java-based BlackBerry
* A BlackBerry Internet plan, or data plan, so you can send and receive PIN messages through Research in Motion’s servers
* Your PIN code — to find it, go to “Options,” then “Status” and finally “PIN”
* Blackberry Messenger software — if it’s not already on your BlackBerry, use your BlackBerry browser or Internet Explorer to go to http://www.blackberry.com/messenger and download it. If you plan to install the BlackBerry Messenger program via your computer, you need BlackBerry Device Software v 3.6 or higher. If you’re installing from your BlackBerry, you’ll need BlackBerry Device Software v 3.7 or higher and at least 16 MB of flash memory.
With the software installed, you’re ready to log on. The first time, you’ll be asked to pick a display name to identify yourself while IMing and to create a password. Once you do that, you’ll be logged automatically into BlackBerry Messenger whenever your device is connected to your wireless network. Once you build your contact list, you can send and receive messages.
BlackBerry Messenger allows users to communicate with others remotely.
Adding Contacts
BlackBerry Messenger’s contact list shows your individual contacts and contact groups. Before you can IM with someone, you have to invite him to join your contact list and request permission to exchange messages. You can do this with existing contacts in your BlackBerry address book by following these steps:
1. Bring up the menu for BlackBerry Messenger.
2. Select “Add a Contact,” which’ll take you to your address book.
3. Click on the contact name you want to add, and select “Request.”
Contacts who aren’t in your BlackBerry address book also need to be added there. Here’s how to send those contacts invitations:
1. Open BlackBerry Messenger and use the trackwheel to go to the Contact List screen.
2. Click “Add a Contact,” which takes you to your address book.
3. Scroll to the top of the list, and highlight “Use Once.”
4. Click “Request by E-mail or PIN.”
5. Type an e-mail address or PIN code, and press “Enter.”
6. Add a message, and click “OK” twice.
Once the contact accepts your invitation, he’ll be added automatically to your contact list. Invitations that contacts send to you will appear on the Contact List screen. To accept a request, select it, click the trackwheel, and then click “Open” and “Accept.” To deny the request, use the same process but click “Decline” instead of “Accept.”
Sending and Receving Messages
To send an IM, click a contact’s name on the Contact List. Then click “Start Conversation” and type your message. Finish by clicking the Enter key.
To join an existing conversation, go to the Contact List and click on a contact in the Existing Conversations list. Then click “Open Conversation.”
To add contacts to a conversation or start a conference, click on the trackwheel during a conversation. Then click on “Invite” to invite more contacts to participate.
To end a conversation, click on the trackwheel during the conversation and then click “End Conversation.”
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’re ready to explore more advanced functions of BlackBerry Messenger like managing contacts and groups or setting your availability status and alerts. Let’s look next at some functions that make IMing fast and easy.
BlackBerry Messenger Functions
With BlackBerry Messenger, it’s easy to manage contacts, to indicate your availability, to “ping” a contact and to perform other functions. Here’s how some of these work.
Getting started with BlackBerry Messenger is easy for BlackBerry users. It simply requires PIN activation.
Managing Contacts
Perhaps you’d like to use BlackBerry Messenger to see a contact’s information. All you need to do is go to the Contact List screen, click on the contact’s name, and click “Contact Info.”
Or maybe you’d like to remove an individual contact from your contact list. To do so, go to the Contact List screen, and click on the contact’s name. After that, click on “Delete Contact” and then “Delete.”
Beyond treating your contacts separately, BlackBerry Messenger lets you gather them into groups and then manage those groups. For example:
* To add a group to the contact list, go to the Contact List screen and click “Add Group.” Then type a name and click “OK.”
* To switch a contact from one group to another, click the contact’s name on the Contact List and click “Move.” Then select a group and click on it.
* To remove a group, click the group’s name on your Contact List. Then click “Delete Group” and “Delete.” (Note that you can’t remove the default Contacts group.)
Availability Status
Your availability status shows your contacts whether you want to exchange IMs (Available) or not (Unavailable) at any given time. BlackBerry Messenger will automatically change your status in some cases. It’ll, for example, show a Busy icon if you’re doing something else on your BlackBerry or if you have not responded to a message received in the past two minutes. An Unreachable icon will be shown if you’re using the phone or in an area without enough wireless coverage.
But you can also change your own status and leave a message for contacts. To change your status, go to the Contact List screen, and click “Available” or “Unavailable.” Type the message you want contacts to see when they IM you, and click “OK.” If you choose “Unavailable,” you’ll still receive messages but you won’t be notified when they arrive.
Notifications and Pings
You can use notifications to alert you of an incoming instant message by having your BlackBerry vibrate or emit a tone. You can set and change notifications in your BlackBerry Messenger profile. Go to the Profiles list, click on a profile, and click “Edit.” Click on a notification option (like “Messenger — New Message”), and click “Edit.” Set the option you want (like “Vibrate-Tone”) and set the desired volume; click the trackwheel, and click “Save.”
Beyond your own settings, you can “ping” someone who isn’t responding by making their BlackBerry vibrate when you send a message. Just click the trackwheel in BlackBerry Messenger, and click “Ping Contact.” If you want to turn off the ping function on your own device, go to the Contact List screen, click “Options” and click on the box before “Clear the Vibrate When Receiving a Ping.”
More Functions
Here are a few more functions to try:
* Press the SYM key twice to see a selection of emoticons that you can use in your instant messages.
* Select “View Calendar” to access your BlackBerry calendar without leaving BlackBerry Messenger.
* Try “Copy History” to save a copy of your conversation. Once you hit “End Conversation,” your chance to save the conversation is gone.
So beyond all these fun and useful facts and tricks, BB Messenger can also be used withing Organizations with BES server solution to make it more secure and useful for Organizations.

JetBlue Airways has agreed to buy Verizon’s Airfone business to offer e-mail and messaging services aboard planes. Verizon has been shedding businesses lately to focus on its wireless service. The purchase lets JetBlue expand an in-flight messaging service it started testing on one plane in December and plans to add to other aircraft and carriers. JetBlue won a U.S. government auction of airwaves this month to provide Web service on flights.
While this won’t allow us to use our BlackBerrys yet for email goodness, JetBlue has said they’re studying ways to allow passengers to use them during flights. The wait continues…

Today is a BIG DAY for Mac heads and iPhone lovers. 1pm EST kicks off Apple's WorldWide Developers Conference where it is widely expected we will get our first glimpse of the new 3G iPhone 2.0 (or something like that).
Our sister site The iPhone Blog has set up a Live Meta Blog for the event and will be covering the news as it unfolds (you can also live chat with others listening in and vote on real time polls). Knowledge is power... so whether you're an iPhone lover, hater or somewhere it between you'll want to be checking this out. Be sure to report back here with your comments!
At last ! Let’ hope this type of solution spreads for here. A Pre-Paid BlackBerry data package would open the device up to even more users. No more stuffing around trying to get your BlackBerry enabled for global roaming when you go overseas. (Not to mention any nasty surprise data roaming bills when you get back home). Simple purchase your pre-paid package, send through your sms and your away. This type of service would also be great for young people (well, younger than me anyway, and that’s just about everybody
) and people on a limited income that could not afford a full BIS data package.
“Jakarta, Indonesia –Telkomsel and Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the availability of a new prepaid option for BlackBerry® Internet Service in Indonesia. The new offering from Telkomsel allows customers to activate BlackBerry Internet Service easily and conveniently via short messaging service (SMS) and their service is automatically disabled if there is insufficient credit in their account.
“In line with Telkomsel’s strategy to provide users with quality and timely services, we are proud to partner with RIM to deliver BlackBerry Internet Service with a prepaid option to our customers,” said Hendri Mulya Sjam, Vice President Marketing and Corporate Relationship Management, Telkomsel. “By leveraging our relationship with RIM and our industry experience in the Indonesian market, we can now offer an alternative to enable more business professionals to easily increase efficiency with wireless access to email, phone, organizer and browser functions, as well as other mobile applications, on BlackBerry smartphones.”
“We have enjoyed a very productive relationship with Telkomsel, and we look forward to expanding our presence in the market with this new prepaid service,” said Norm Lo, Vice President, Asia Pacific at Research In Motion. “The BlackBerry solution is a proven, best-in-class mobility tool that is popular around the world, and we are pleased to be working with Telkomsel to bring the many benefits of the BlackBerry solution to an even wider audience in Indonesia.”
BlackBerry Internet Service is designed for smaller businesses and individuals. It allows customers to access up to 10 supported corporate and personal email accounts (including popular ISP email accounts such as, Yahoo!® Mail and Google™ Mail) from a single device.”

There are Lots of Great 3rd Party BlackBerry Themes Available,
but RIM can still do better in servicing this market!
Sifting through my RSS feeds this morning I came across a Rant posted at DevBerry.com about BlackBerry themes. It seems the BBSmart crew have been investigating the BlackBerry theme market and in scoping out the tools theme developers use (aka the Plazmic Theme Builder) have determined that "Everything Sucks" - Plazmic is Buggy, It's WAYYY to easy for BlackBerry owners to Brick their BlackBerrys, and the coolest themes to hit the market (like the Crossbar theme) get yanked by RIM legal before the masses have had a chance to buy them.
I've seen first hand that there is a market and a desire for BlackBerry themes - both Free and Premium. Everybody loves getting stuff for free (me too), but push come to shove there is a big community of people willing to pay the $6/$7/$8 that may be charged for a Premium BlackBerry theme that is unique, pays attention to detail and comes with support from the developer. With RIM's huge growth in the consumer market, this demand is only going to increase. Like ezainny over at DevBerry, I hope RIM starts really paying attention to the 3rd Party BlackBerry theme market and BlackBerry theme developers. Getting theme developers the tools they need to turn out stellar creations should be a top priority, as is putting failsafes in place so you can't nuke your BlackBerry by installing the wrong theme...it's WAY to common of a problem. How to Reload the Operating System on a Nuked BlackBerry SHOULD NOT be one of the most viewed articles at CrackBerry.com... but guess what, it is.
As I walk to work each day to get my blog on, I often pass punk kids blathering away on their mobiles. Recently, I’ve seen many of them using BlackBerry Pearls or hand-me-down 7290’s (still kicking!) from their parents. That’s why I’m pleased to discover today that all those punk kids in my way suffer from sleeping disorders.
According to a research abstract that will be presented at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (no, I’m not making that up), when compared to subjects with restricted use of cell phones, young people with excessive use of cell phones (both talking and text messaging) have increased restlessness with more careless lifestyles, more consumption of stimulating beverages, difficulty in falling asleep and disrupted sleep, and more susceptibility to stress and fatigue.
So if you love your child, don’t give them a BlackBerry. It does beg the question, however: if this is what happens to teens, what’s going to happen to us?

Peter from BBextras used to release some hot themes until he had to pull them a bit back. He has always been a photography buff and you can really see what I mean if you check out some of his pictures on www.bbextras.com.

He has some great images that make perfect wallpapers for your BlackBerry but you may need to resize it yourself to fit the background. You also need to register for the site to send them to your BlackBerry which is a bit annoying but the pictures look awesome.
Check them out at www.bbextras.com.
While reading Neil's most recent blog entry at devberry.com he mentions the official Blackberry developer newsletter hasn't been coming out. I just double checked the official site (http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/resources/newsletter.jsp) and they've missed the last two issues. I don't suppose anyone from RIM would like to comment? No, didn't think so.
Today is the day… It has been widely speculated that Steve Jobs will introduce the 3G iPhone today in his keynote at WWDC. There is no question that today will be a big day for Apple. I believe, however, that it will be a big day for the BlackBerry as well.
Just like last year with the release of the first generation iPhone, buzz in the smartphone world will be at its peak and, in fact, spill over into the consumer world of mobile phones. This is great news for RIM who saw their market share increase amongst all the hype of the iPhone over the last year.
I believe that the spill over effect may be even more pronounced this year because Research in Motion is putting out new devices that are even more consumer friendly than before. We’ve officially heard about the BlackBerry Bold, all but officially heard about the BlackBerry KickStart, and BlackBerry Thunder leaks are coming on strong. (How perfect is the timing on the Verizon BlackBerry Thunder pictures?)
Millions of consumers are going to be all jazzed up about the new 3G iPhone and walk into the stores to get information about it. Many are going to find out how expensive the iPhone is or that it only runs on AT&T and then immediately start to look at other smartphones, namely BlackBerrys, that are pretty cheap if not completely subsidized by the carrier and available on the network that they are already on.
To make a long story short, I think that the 3G iPhone announcement will be huge for the BlackBerry.
Bplay has released their latest game for the BlackBerry. Based on the new movie starring Edward Norton, The Incredible Hulk looks to be a good one for when you're stressed out at the office and need to take your frustrations out on someone (what could be better than being a monstrous green mass and beating people up?!). Here's the official verbage:
The Incredible Hulk™ smashes onto mobile in a wave of destruction and kicks off an all-new, explosive and action-packed epic of one of the most popular Super Heroes of all time.
Unleash your rage as you confront a monstrous new adversary known as The Abomination. Smash your way past military machinery and avoid the obsessive pursuit of your nemesis, General “Thunderbolt” Ross.
The Hulk unleashes his full power in the most interactive and destructible environments brought to mobile. Face off against The Hulk's nemesis The Abomination. Incredible graphics allow you to face off against multiple enemies in huge battles. Based on the live-action movie starring Edward Norton, Tim Roth, Liv Tyler and William Hurt.
The Incredible Hulk sells for $9.99. You can buy it and other cool BlackBerry games and themes from Bplay.com

Many people in the BlackBerry Nation don’t know anything about WWDC, Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. However, today just might be a good day to start learning, considering the ENTIRE FREAKING INTERNET is waiting on a 3G iPhone announcement that should be coming today from Mr. Jobs himself. Considering how hyped you all seem to be for 3G, and how iPhone vs. BlackBerry has always allowed for endearing saber-rattling, I must ask the question: are you in any way planning to follow today’s WWDC news?

With June now here, the summer wedding season is upon us. And as you head out to watch your friends and loved ones tie the knot in the months ahead, keep your eyes open for the almighty BlackBerry. You may just find BlackBerry Smartphones popping up frequently to play crucial roles on the BIG DAY. Here are two Wedding and a BlackBerry stories that we're sent into me this weekend:
Wedding Story #1 - Maid of Honor relies on her BlackBerry Pearl to deliver her Toast to the Bride (see video above, and Congrats to Bo and Val from CrackBerry.com!!).
Wedding Story #2 - My CrackBerry Saved a Wedding! Sent in by Matt Osbun. Read his story after after the jump...
Your Berry is bound to go green with this game. Bplay has been doing an amazing job of pushing out other games from the BlackBerry beyond plain jane card games. Their latest is a smash em up game based on the Hulk movie. Sadly there is no trial but hopefully we will get off our lazy behinds and do a review. Honestly I am just waiting for Mortal Kombat or Tekken…Multiplayer. (Pretty please Magmic?)

BG has done it again, leaking another exclusive picture of a nascent BlackBerry. This time, it’s the BlackBerry Thunder, which Boy Genius tells us is a dual mode (EV-DO Rev. C and GSM HSPA for international travel) touchscreen BlackBerry coming exclusively to Verizon Q3 of this year. Although it’s a mock-up, BG wouldn’t post it unless it was legit. Also, surprise surpise, it looks exactly like the one BG furnished when he originally broke the story during WES — it’s almost like he knew.
Post a comment and tell us what you think of the words touchscreen and BlackBerry being wrapped together in one nice, neat little package.

Are you an E-Trade and BlackBerry user? If so, you'll want to check out the newly announced E-Trade Mobile Pro for BlackBerry. The software hasn't been fully released just yet, but you can click here for more information and to sign up for launch notification.
I think I might open an E-Trade account just so I can use this good look'n and feature packed BlackBerry app. Check out this E-Trade Mobile Pro Demo for a full overview and be sure to watch the video above... gotta love that E-Trade Baby! :-)
To kick off last week, I expressed some disdain for the blurry image of the BlackBerry Thunder. It seemed like a huge bit of non-news that made it’s way all the way around the BlackBerry Internet circle. It turns out that it was just the housing, though realistically it could have been nothing but a shoddy ad image put up by a company trying to pre-sell some of these babies. Thanks to the Boy Genius Report, we now have what appears to be an actual image. It’ll be waiting for you after the jump.

As you can see, there are still plenty of physical buttons on the Thunder, which will hopefully add to the experience. The only downfall I can see is that the side “convenience” keys might be a bit obtrusive if you’re holding the phone around its edges.
All in all, it looks beyond awesome. It should definitely give some pause to Verizon customers who planned to switch to AT&T for the 3G iPhone. This looks like the real deal.

Hey guys, so I would first like to thank you for this great opportunity to review on these boards.
Now to start my first “column”, I will begin with WHY one should unlock their device, and what it means to “Unlock” your device.
Firstly, many carriers use the term of a “locked phone”, referring to the SIM status, this mean which providers SIM card is allowed to access the device for calling, texting etc.
Carriers lock their phones, mainly because they offer the devices at greatly reduced prices, called a subsidy price - they assume the balance of the phone will be paid over the term of the contract (2yrs, 3yrs). So a locked phone can only be used with them (that carrier).
Unlocking the device, simply means to remove the SIM restriction and this will allow any SIM card to be used on the device.
This in general will also increase the resale value, for example a locked AT&T blackberry may sell for $350 to an AT&T customer, meanwhile unlocked can be sold to anyone (Rogers or T-Mobile customer) for extra $50 or so…
As well, of course the fact that I’d the device is unlocked you may use it on any carrier, so while on vacation in Greece, you can use Vodaphone or Cosmote and save on roaming fees.
So, since this is a BerryReview, I will instruct how to check if your berry is locked or unlocked:
Go to advanced options, SIM card, type mepd (meppd on a pearl) you won’t see as you type - a hidden menu will open displaying locks status - if Network says disabled its unlocked, if it says Active its locked

To help you with unlocking your Berry we have hooked up with HorizonWireless to offer you $5 off all unlocking fees. Just go www.horizonwirelessonline.com and use the discount code - breview - and save $5.00 off the current special prices.
Thanks, and stay tuned to more…
RIM has just released a new Flickr application for BlackBerry. The application works similar to facebook and allows users to upload photos taken with their BlackBerry to their Flickr account. You can grab your free copy of Flickr by visiting blackberry.com/flickrdownload from your device.
Flickr also allows you to geotag pictures taken, this puts your location on the picture via your BlackBerry's GPS. Details can be found here.

I know many people use Google Maps “My Location” feature to get their location without GPS. Turns out Google has some big plans for this My Location. In their latest post on their Google Mobile blog they mention exactly how they get this location.
It turns out that they have been using us for months!
Any phone using Google Maps with GPS was sending back the coordinates and CellID to Google for their location. Not that I care all that much but they could at least have asked…
Well its nice to see that they are giving back this information. They hope to soon provide this “My Location” feature for other developers to use in their 3rd party applications. In truth many developers can already do this with the opensource www.opencellid.org. Here is to more location aware applications!

What an awkward photo. So it seems like Lauren Conrad (and probably Lauren Bosworth too) isn’t speaking to Audrina Patridge anymore. It’s been rumored that Audrina is currently still staying in the guest house of their $2.5 million home, but have plans to move out soon. Drama on The Hills…it’s a good thing Whitney Port is staying out of this — she has her very own spinoff coming up [false rumor].

Now, when we say “carries her baby” we mean her BlackBerry is her baby…we’re not, perhaps, insinuating that she, may be, pregnant…not at all…
In other news, Britney Spears is set to make a cameo appearance in a Pussycat Dolls music video. Not only would she be shaking her junk like Beyonce, but, she’s also taking part in directing the video. Should be interesting to see how Britney does behind the camera.
All of you CDMA users realize that Verizon and Sprint are the last to receive any OS update love. So it was nice when one of our readers, Paul, dropped me a tip that they have update their OS on 5/30/2008. The new features in the latest OS are miniscule but still nice to see:
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce new software enhancements for your BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone. The RIM® OS
v4.2.2.196 (Platform 3.0.0.84) update includes the latest feature improvements for your device.
To ensure the best possible user experience, Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion encourage you to download and install the free update now.The latest OS update:
• Improves location-based services (LBS) and VZ NavigatorSM
performance.
• Provides support for 2 GB and 8 GB microSD cards.
• Displays Chinese carrier names with Chinese characters when
connected to a GSM network.
• Makes upgrading software on the device quicker and easier.
To download the software update, please visit vzam.net/blackberry.
Thanks Paul!
All of you BIS users rejoice. BIS 2.5 is almost upon us and RIM has released the full feature list for the latest update. Many of these features requires OS 4.5 along with BIS 2.5 so don’t get your hopes up so fast… Thanks Josep for the tip!
In a nutshell:
Sadly there are quite a few caveats. For example external images will have to be loaded using the menu button. Not all carriers will support Windows Live push email. You will have to reactivate windows live push every 90 days. read the full details at this link on RIM’s Knowledge base.

Just couldn’t miss mentioning this one. Handango has a sweepstakes going on where you can register every day to win $50,000 or one of 8 smartphones (sadly not a BlackBerry). The giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on August 26, 2008.
Pretty cool stuff but you do need to fill in your name and address and a few details about yourself. Still worth a chance to roll the dice. Maybe somebody will thank BerryReview for 50,000 this time
Click on this link every day to register

You all know the Thunder right? Well, looky looky who got a cookie. Yeah peoples, live shot of the BlackBerry Thunder right here. By just looking at the photo, we can see that almost every button on a traditional BlackBerry like the convenience keys are still there. Like we reported, there are only four physical buttons on the front and a large touch-screen. It is also coming to Verizon.
Thanks Boy Genius for the Find!<
